Woman safe after car fire on SW Freeway feeder road

A woman is safe after her car caught fire on a Southwest Freeway feeder road. Keith Garvin reports.

HOUSTON -

A car fire has closed two feeder roads of the inbound Southwest Freeway near Edloe Street.

The incident involving a Mini Cooper was reported just before 11 a.m. Friday.

The driver told Local 2 she was driving on the feeder road when her brakes and steering wheel locked up.

The woman says her car caught fire while she was driving. She was able to pull over into a shopping mall parking lot and get out safely before the flames engulfed her car.

The vehicle was destroyed in the fire. 

Houston firefighters responded to the scene. No word yet on an official cause of the fire.

The incident is blocking the two right feeder road lanes. Traffic is getting by in the left lane.

Traffic is also backing up on the mainlanes.
