Police were looking for two armed men that forced a man to get on the ground and then shot him early Friday morning.
The victim's father said his 29-year-old son was standing outside of a home on North Main Street near 29th Street with a friend, when the two men ran up to the pair. Police said one of the men had a handgun, the other held a rifle.
The armed men shouted, demanding that the two get down on the ground. According to investigators, the men shot the victim, identified as Chris Riley, when he resisted.
Riley's father said he wasn't sure why anyone would target his son.
According to investigators, it may have been an attempted robbery, but as soon as the gunmen shot Riley, they fled the scene.
Three bullets hit Riley, but he is expected to survive. Another bullet hit the home, breaking a window on the side of the house. No one inside was harmed.
Emergency responders took Riley to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was expected to undergo surgery Friday morning.
The shooter is described as a 5 foot 9 black male with short dreads and a goatee. The second suspect was armed with a rifle and was 6 foot 1 with no further description.
