It was a very special day for Army Sgt. Benjamin Eberle and his family as they broke ground Monday on what will be their new home.
The charitable foundation Helpingahero.org provided the house to Eberle, his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Halle.
Eberle lost both feet and his right hand when an improvised explosive device detonated in Iraq.
Plans created for the new home in Montgomery show it will be fully wheelchair accessible to help Eberle be as independent as possible.
"We're very excited, very appreciative for the community for what they've done," Eberle said. "It was just overwhelming, like didn't seem real but here we are."
Lt. Governor David Dewhurst was also at Monday's event.
Eberle told Local 2 that although he is a triple amputee, he continues to embrace his love for the outdoors, fishing, camping, canoeing and riding ATVs.
