Police say it all started with a controlled narcotics buy, then the suspect refused to pull over. Amanda Perez reports.

HOUSTON -

A suspect was taken into custody after leading police on a chase through northeast Houston on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said it began just before 1pm near Laura Koppe and the Eastex Freeway with a controlled narcotics buy.  Police said after the deal, the suspect refused to pull over and instead lead them on a chase.

Police used spike strips to try and stop the driver. At one point, the suspect was driving with two flat tires.

The chase lasted about 15-20 minutes before the suspect led officers to his grandmother's house. After being taken into custody, he had a tearful exchange with an uncle from the back of a police cruiser.

"He said he was sorry he let the whole family down and he wanted me to let them know he's sorry he let them down," said the suspect's uncle, Robert Foreman.

Foreman identified his nephew as Shannon Burrell, 42.

"There was no reason for this to happen. We don't do this. We are church people. We don't allow this stuff in our family. We thought he had turned a page," said Foreman.

Police say the suspect had been driving his grandmother's vehicle. They aren't sure whether it had any damage because of the chase.
