Nov. 8, 2013: The Aldine Independent School District is increasing police patrols in the area near Davis Ninth Grade School after reports of students having their cell phones stolen while walking home from school. Jennifer Bauer reports.

HOUSTON -

The Aldine Independent School District is increasing police patrols in the area near Davis Ninth Grade School in the 12000 block of Ella Boulevard, not far from Greenspoint, after reports of students having their cell phones stolen while walking home from school.

Aldine ISD police have also launched an investigation and "will take appropriate action when necessary," a district spokesperson said in a statement.

"It's very scary," said Natalie Hagger, whose son and daughter attend Davis.  "It's sad that kids can't come to school or walk home, thinking they're safe and the parents have to worry about this."

A district spokesperson told Local 2 it's unclear who is committing the crimes and no arrests have been made. Some parents suspect it's older students picking on younger ones.

Sharea Quarles, a substitute teacher, said it's important for all kids to be careful and avoid distractions when walking home.

"They always have their phones out and walk looking down, not paying attention," she said.  "You have to be cautious walking in this area."
