Last-minute shoppers take part in "Super Saturday"

HOUSTON – As the holiday shopping season comes down to the wire, retailers are making a final push to entice shoppers into spending money on last-minute deals.

The Saturday before Christmas, known as "Super Saturday," is supposed to take home the title as the biggest shopping day of the year.

A steady but heavy flow of shoppers made their way into the Best Buy store at the Galleria on Saturday, searching for deals on hot ticket items like computers and TVs.

"They've got tons of sales going on here so I'm still looking and I'm just getting started but I'm sure I'll walk out of here with something," said Steve Tinsman.

Like Tinsman, hundreds of other customers waited patiently in long lines to take home items they scored at a lower price.

"I'm touchy-feely. I like to go and see, and feel it and see if it'll work. When you're shopping for 55 different people, it's hard to find one thing that fits," said Alli Jarrett, who left with more than 50 pairs of earphones as gifts for her employees.

Other shoppers took their time roaming the aisles, searching for the best deals on the latest gadgets and taking a good look at some of Best Buy's more expensive items.

"There's nothing better than putting your hands on what you're going to buy, you know?" said William Stern.

According to national numbers, 20 percent of consumers wait to finish their Christmas shopping the last few weeks before the holiday; that's why Super Saturday is expected to generate more than $20 billion in revenue.
