Wrong-Way Driver Shot
GALVESTON, Texas -

An off-duty Galveston County deputy said he was forced to shoot a man driving the wrong way on the Gulf Freeway on Thursday.

According to reports, the driver was headed north in the southbound lanes near Texas City when the officer attempted to flag him down around 10 p.m.

When the driver pulled over, deputies said he got out of his truck and charged at the officer.

Fearing for his life, the off-duty officer shot the suspect, deputies said.

He was rushed to the hospital in stable condition.

As of Friday morning, it wasn't clear what, if any, repercussions the officer is expected to face.
