A new partnership will help law enforcement fight crime and make the streets of Harris County safer.
Local, state, and federal law enforcement is asking the citizens of Harris County to continue helping them fight against gang crime.
Since September 2010, Houstonians have been visiting the website stophoustongangs.org to help law enforcement do just that: Stop gangs from committing crimes.
Now, an enhanced partnership with Crime Stoppers will reward citizens up to $5,000 in cash for tips that lead to an arrest or the filing of federal charges.
"We need the tips, we need the information in order to stop the crime that is occurring here in Houston," said attorney Ken Magidson. "The message is, we can work together but we need your assistance to make the streets safer."
According to Houston PD, there have been over 220,000 visitors to the website, with over 1,700 tips that have been provided by the public. From those tips, there have been over 600 arrests.
Clear Channel Outdoor has donated time on their digital billboards to publicize each week's featured fugitive.
"Over the last years, these kinds of messages have been displayed over 2.2 millions times in the Houston area on 15 digital area," said Clear Channel VP Lee Vella.
Something that has proven successful in catching gang members. One man, who was wanted for capital murder, was arrested the same day his picture went up with the help of Houston citizens.
