WASHINGTON -

New federal guidelines are in effect to help protect children on the internet.

The Federal Trade Commission has updated it's Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. It's meant to put parents in the driver's seat when it comes to information websites collect about their kids under the age of 13.

It also means websites that allow kids under 13 must comply with federal privacy requirements.
