HOUSTON -

A suspect who police said led them on a chase after stealing three cases of beer is in custody.

According to Harris County Precinct 7 constables, the chase started late Tuesday morning at the The Food Store located in the 9200 block of West Bellfort in southwest Houston.

The suspect got on the Beltway before the chase ended near the 10200 block of W. Bellfort.

Officials said the chase ended near the 10200 block of W. Bellfort after the suspect crashed into another vehicle, got out of the car and then ran into an apartment.

"I was lying down on my couch and some guy ran in my house saying I just did something.  That's when I left," said Dominique Harris.

He told the people inside to get out and he locked the door.

Constables got a pass key, entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Kareem Jefferson. They say he has a long criminal history.
