September 4, 2013: Police said a man found dead in southwest Houston may be the victim of a random act of violence. Mark Boyle reports.

Police have identified the man they said was found dead in southwest Houston and may be the victim of a random act of violence.

Investigators said 37-year-old Jose De Jesus Parra Zepeda was found on the side of Boone Road near Beechnut Street around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"This looks like just a random act,” said HPD Det. Richard Martinez. “Don't know if they tried to rob him but he had nothing to take.”

Several people saw the body and called 911.

"We were passing by and we saw it and we were like, is this how we have to live every day…in fear of our lives,” asked Lena Melancon.

Police said Zepeda was a good person and would often be spotted cleaning up trash in the area and covering up spray painted gang symbols.

Detectives are checking security cameras in the area to see if they may have recorded the suspects leaving the scene of the crime.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
