HARRIS COUNTY -

Possible human remains have been found in northwest Harris County Friday morning according to Harris County deputies.

Homicide detectives are looking into the possibility that the remains of a missing women were scattered in the front and back yards of a home on Fleur Drive and Montaigne.

Officials say Wende Marshall, 44, has been missing since October 30.

Detectives are digging through dirt in the front yard of the home for what they believe are Marshall's chopped and burned remains.

The day after Marshall's disappearance, neighbors reported seeing smoke billowing from Marshall's chimney.

"I thought it was unusual because it wasn't cold enough," next door neighbor Tricia McKie said of the chimney smoke.  "They had a fire. To me, it seemed weird."

Investigators working the scene believe Marshall may have burned and killed several days ago.

"Last night they had the fire department out here basically excavating in the backyard for things," said neighbor Rosemary Wallace. "Apparently they found fragments all the way into the street."

Neighbors said Marshall lived at the home with her boyfriend.  Deputies tell Local 2 Marshall's boyfriend has been questioned about her disappearance and was not detained.

Investigators say the bizarre string of events started last week when Marshall vanished.

Neighbors put up posters in the area, but deputies say it wasn't until Tuesday when a neighbor noticed thick, black smoke coming from the home’s chimney.

Officials believe Marshall was burned and killed several days ago.

An official confirmation of the remains will be determined once an autopsy is performed by the medical examiner.

Neighbors say Marshall and her boyfriend were seen together often and no one ever suspected something like this.

"I didn't know him very, very well," one neighbor told Local 2. "They were very quiet people besides the fighting that you would hear. He just seemed like a normal person."

Police tell Local 2 that Marshall's boyfriend was questioned by investigators but he has not been charged nor arrested in this case.

An official confirmation of the remains will be determined once an autopsy is performed by the medical examiner.
