HOUSTON -

A man was jailed late Tuesday after he pulled a gun in an attempt to steal a single beer at a north Houston truck stop, according to police.

Houston police say the man walked into the Love's truck stop on Patton and the North Freeway and started acting suspiciously.

A security guard said he saw the man try to shoplift a beer.

"The male attempted to leave the store, so the security guard attempted to arrest him for shoplifting," said Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. "At that point, the suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at the security officer. The officer backed up, and that's when the suspect took off."

Officials say the man ran about a half a mile away to the 200 block of Frawley. That's where officers say they spotted him.  They ordered him to stop, but the man threw his gun and ran.

Crowson says officers tackled the man, and in the process his face was scraped and bloodied, but his injuries were minor.

As for the people inside the convenience store, several of them say they were frightened, but none of them were hurt, according to investigators.
