More than a dozen families lost everything when a fire ripped through an apartment complex in west Houston, but there is a happy turn to this story.

The Houston Fire Department came to the complex to bring gifts to dozens of kids who lost just about everything in a brutal apartment fire Monday night.

Residents said the fire at 1714 Wirt ripped through their apartment complex in minutes as the flames and heavy black smoke drove 10 families from their homes.

As arson investigators continued looking for the cause Tuesday, the same firefighters who fought that blaze returned to the community to resurrect Christmas for the children who live there.

Christmas joy and hope returned to those kids in the best of ways -- not by Santa Claus, but by the heroes they will no doubt come to love and admire from this Christmas forever forward.

The Houston Fire Department helped save Christmas for those young children, and Local 2 had a part in all of this. The toys that those firefighters handed out came from Local 2's Operation Stocking Stuffer toy drive.

Operation Stocking Stuffer is an annual charitable toy drive sponsored by Local 2 and the Houston Fire Department.
