Houston family creates 'Christmas Jammies' video to encourage blood donations
When a Houston family heard about a critical blood shortage at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital they decided to take action with a YouTube video.
Earlier this month, KPRC Local 2's Phil Archer introduced viewers to 5-year-old Kyssi Andrews. She has been battling cancer since she was 3 years old.
Kyssi depends on blood platelet transfusions at MD Anderson.
The Behan family was so inspired by Kyssi's story, they created a video called, "Check Out What We Did in Our Christmas Jammies."
The Behan's video is a take on another family's Christmas jammies video, which has gone viral.
The Behans said they had a blast making the video and hope it will get the word out about donating blood this holiday season.
MD Anderson provides more daily blod transfusions than any other hospital in the country. However, the hospital is rationing transfusions, forcing some patients to wait longer for the blood they need. More donors are badly needed.
The Blood Donation Center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be open half a day on Christmas. The MD Anderson Blood Center is located at 2555 Holly Hall near Reliant Park. Click here for more information or call 713-792-7777.
