Nov. 7, 2013: The annual Nutcracker Market opens its doors Thursday night at Reliant Stadium. Ruben Galvan previews the event.

HOUSTON -

More than 300 vendors from across the country are participating in Houston's Nutcracker Market this year. It's a shopping extravaganza that has been kicking off the holiday shopping season in Houston for 33 years.

"More than 300 vendors from 117 cities and 33 states," said Cynthia Brown, the chairman of the Market. "You're finding things from across the country, from as far away as San Francisco and the Northeast."

Inside the Reliant Center, shoppers will discover unique gift items for the family -- everything from home decor to toys and food.

"It's absolutely shopping for a good cause," said Jim Nelson, who's with the Houston Ballet. "This is our largest fundraiser for the Houston Ballet."

Nelson told Local 2 this one event raises more than $4 million for the ballet, which has a $22 million budget. The event benefits the Houston Ballet foundation, its academy and the scholarship program.

The event is open Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10, the event will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets are $14 each.

Half-price admission will be available three hours prior to closing.

No strollers, wagons or rolling bags will be permitted inside.
