HISD is giving parents and students the chance to taste new food the district is considering adding to the cafeteria menu.
HISD's first-ever, district wide Nutrition Innovation Food Show will be held Thursday.
Some of the items under consideration are: cheesy garlic bread sticks, chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese, pollock fish crusted with sweet potatoes, pita pockets with honey and oven roasted turkey, and cheese melts.
In addition to sampling the food products, students also will be able to talk to suppliers, ask them questions about their offerings and analyze ingredient lists.
"We want kids to know they are valued and their opinion is important. If they don’t accept our food products, we’ve missed the boat," said Brian Giles, senior administrator for HISD Food Services. "It will be a fun opportunity for all in the community to come together and meet the people of food services."
The Nutrition Innovation Food Show is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on October 24, 2013, at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Hotel, 3000 North Loop West.
The Waltrip High School Jazz Band will play at the event.
All attendees will be eligible to win raffle prizes.
That feedback will be used by Food Services to help determine which items will be added to the food bids for the 2014-2015 school year.
