HOUSTON -

The lockdown at a Houston ISD middle school has ended Tuesday morning.

HISD said Albert Thomas Middle School was placed under lockdown around 9 a.m. after two students were approached by a man upon arriving at school. The school is located at 5655 Selinsky in southeast Houston.

Officials say around 8 a.m., a man was standing near the corner across the street from the school. That's when he tried to lure the two girls away.

The district said the man asked the students to go with him, but they refused.

The school's principal was standing nearby, heard the girls asking for help and was able to open the gates so the girls could run to safety.

The man, who is described as 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a trench coat, jumped into a vehicle and drove away.

District officials said in a statement that “HISD police are searching for the individual and have added security around the school.”

The district said the students are safe.

The lockdown was lifted around 11 a.m.
