Officials with the health department are urging people to get immunized after a dozen cases of the measles were reported this year.

That is including one person who tested positive for the illness in Harris County.

The highest number of confirmed cases is coming out of Tarrant County, which is near Dallas.

Health experts say measles can be spread by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing.

According to health officials, some of the measles cases near Dallas can be traced back to an adult who had traveled outside the US recently.

Last year there were no reports of measles in Texas.
