Police are investigating two armed robberies in the Acres Homes area.
A young man came into the Shipley's Donuts off Antoine and Little York moments after the manager opened the doors for business on Monday morning.
"He came in like a customer," said the manager who has been working there since the store opened. "He had a gun and told everyone to get on the floor. He asked for money and said he would shot us if he didn't get cash. I gave him the money in the register, but he wanted more.”
According to employees, the suspect pushed the manager into the office and forced her to open the safe.
"I told him I didn't have a key for the safe, and that I have two young children. I asked him not to hurt me for their sake, and then he fired his gun. I am still shaking," she said.
At one point, the suspect grabbed another employee and put the gun to his head.
The suspect in the surveillance video was wearing a white hoodie, a hat, and a black backpack. He is approximately 18 or 19 years old, and has braided hair.
In response to the robbery, the lobby inside Shipley's Donuts will close at noon instead of the usual 8 p.m. Employees said it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
Less than 24 hours later, the Subway across the street was also robbed at gunpoint. It happened around 10 p.m. Monday.
In both robberies, the employees were not seriously injured.
Investigators believe the crimes are connected. They're hoping the surveillance video will help identify the suspects.
