Grand re-opening at Galveston's East Beach

Galveston’s East Beach is reopening just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
East Beach is one of the biggest beaches in Texas, and was destroyed when Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast in 2008.
Before the hurricane, Galveston drew about $700 million a year from tourists. That’s one of the reasons Friday’s grand reopening is a big deal for the community.
The new pavilion is the centerpiece of it all. More than $1.5 million went into the building the beach’s new structure and boardwalk.
East Beach's new entertainment stage and boardwalk will be home to a free concert series this summer with bands playing in the afternoons on the second, third and fourth Sundays May through September.
