GALVESTON, Texas -

Seventeen beaches on Galveston Island posted advisories of the high levels of bacteria in the water.

Swimming is not recommended when the levels of bacteria are this high.

The warning has been off and on for the past few months.

According to Galveston County Health, the heavy rains are to blame.

Advisories do not mean the beaches are not closed, only that you should use caution getting in the water.
