HOUSTON -

Gallery Furniture is planning to build a brand new store in Richmond.

According to store owner Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, groundbreaking on the property, next to the Santikos Palladium Theatres on the Grand Parkway, will take place sometime between now and the end of April.

The store is expected to open in late November or December and will hire 50 to 75 new employees.

At 140,000 square feet, the new store will be bigger than the combined area of the company's two existing locations at Galleria-area shop and the North Freeway.

The design of the store is by Keenon Rayner, principal at Identity Architects in Houston.

The new property will feature a playground and tree house for children, a big restaurant and an area where residents of the Brookwood Community for disabled adults will sell their products.

Mattress Mack said the company has also launched Gallery Movers, a moving company that utilizes the stores' delivery staff.
