A family who was down on their luck, before losing their father in a massive Christmas Eve fire, was presented with a fully furnished apartment.
Robert Vargas, who has been unemployed for over a month, was staying at his father's house with his wife and two kids when that fire broke out.
After hearing the family's devastating story, friends and family decided to reach into their pockets to help the family of four.
On Wednesday, the family was presented the keys to their new apartment in Baytown, fully stocked and furnished.
"This is what New Year's is all about. It's a New Year," said Teresa Hoffart, who is related to the Vargas family.
Investigators have not yet said what caused the fire.
