Families displaced after NW Harris Co. apartment fire

January 24, 2014: Four families are homeless after a fire ripped through an apartment complex. Phillip Mena reports.

HARRIS COUNTY -

Several families will have to find a new place to sleep after their apartments were destroyed in a fire.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Windfern Forest Apartments located on Windfern in northwest Harris County.

Fire crews with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke and fire pouring out of the roof of the apartment complex.

Firefighters made a fast attack and were able to extinguish the flames.

Officials said four families were displaced. They were being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Officials said the fire started in that attic.
