Extinguished apartment fire reignites
Cell phone video shows flames shooting out of this apartment complex on Ormandy in Southwest Houston.
The Murphy's live in one of these apartments and say they were woken up around 1:30 by a neighbor screaming the building was on fire.
"They started knocking on my door, I heard the fire trucks, so I came outside," says Clifton Murphy.
The Houston Fire Dept arrived, put the fire out, and told residents it was safe to go back in.
"We advised them not to turn on the power, until maintenence looked at it, we don't know what happened the second time," Cpt. Gregory Archie/ HFD
But firefighters were called back to the apartments around 2:55, this time for heavy fire and smoke.
"It was furocious it was out of control," says Billie Conner.
The fire was contained to two apartments and the attic. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. Now residents are upset because they say this second fire could have been prevented.
"They made a mistake because we lost everything, everything could have been prevented if they would have just done their job at first," says Murphy.
