A driver crashed into a southeast Houston house after being shot and collapsing at the wheel.
According to Houston police, the man drove his pickup truck to the 3400 block of Pease Street, an area known for drug dealing. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Cisneros and Senior Police Officer H. Chavez said that when the man, who was identified as Chris Roberts, stopped outside of some vacant houses, he was approached by a group of men. After talking with one of the men, Roberts drove away. It was then that one of the men fired a gun at the pickup truck, striking the back window of the truck, hitting Roberts in the back of the head.
He lost control of the truck and slammed into the living room of a one-story house on Napoleon.
The homeowner was in the house at the time of the crash, asleep in the back bedroom.
"I heard a gunshot, and then I heard a crash," said Michael Jefferson, who lives in the home. "So I jumped up and the truck was in the house. So I ran out the back door."
The homeowner was not injured.
Roberts, 47, of Houston, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
