Houston police are looking for a driver who they say shot and killed a Houston man in an apparent road rage incident.
Police say it started around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when a driver called 911 and reported another driver on the Katy Freeway near Wirt was driving erratically.
The next 911 call came a few minutes later from a passenger in the same vehicle, telling a dispatcher the original caller had been shot.
"Apparently, after [the driver] was shot, the male passenger then tried to prevent the car from crashing by grabbing the steering wheel," said Nathan Rosenblatt, with the Houston Police Department.
Fabian DelAngel told police he had to take control of the wheel after his co-worker, identified as 32-year-old Jamie Ceballos-Garcia, was shot in the head. The vehicle ended up on the I-10 frontage road near Silber.
“We were driving; the guy was following us. He tried to crash and he passed us two or three times,” said DelAngel.
DelAngel said he and Ceballos-Garcia were co-workers and they were heading home from work at the time of the incident. Another woman was also in the car, but neither she nor DelAngel were injured.
Police say the suspect's vehicle was described as a gray Chevy Malibu. They are hoping license plate numbers will help them track down the suspect.
“We're going to go back and review 911 calls and gather what led to the shooting,” said Rosenblatt.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
