November 8, 2013: Parents and police are on alert after rumors spread on social media that there would be a riot and weapons taken to the campus of Caney Creek High School on Friday. Mary Benton reports.

CONROE, Texas -

Parents and police are on alert after rumors spread on social media that there would be a riot and weapons taken to the campus of Caney Creek High School on Friday.

Officials with the Conroe Independent School District said they put a safety plan in place that included extra police officers, metal detectors and hallway supervision.

The principal of Caney Creek, Trish McClure, sent an alert home to parents informing them of the rumors and the district's disciplinary rules.

"Any students found to have made comments or posts compromising school safety will receive discipline. Please take this opportunity to remind your child about the importance of monitoring their social media comments."

According to the district, the problems began earlier in the week when a number of fights broke out between students.

On Thursday the district began hearing that a weapon would be brought to campus and that a riot could take place.

"I was pretty concerned. A bunch of students left today. There was a whole line of people picking up their kids and leaving for the entire day," said student Jacob Marshall.

However, many students said they felt safe on campus.

"I wasn't too concerned because of the police and security they had. It's pretty safe," said student Nathaniel Galvan.

No major incidents were reported at the school on Friday, according to Conroe ISD officials.
