HOUSTON -

Community members in the Fifth Wardare outraged over the demolition of the original Wheatley High School.

An injunction has been field and the Houston Independent School District has temporarily stopped tearing down the front of the building.

Activists thought they reached a compromise with HISD in a meeting Saturday and had a verbal agreement.

But less than 24 hours, construction crews began tearing down the school. Workers slammed through the side of the building leaving a huge hole and a community frustrated.

HISD released a statement that reads in part:

"Today, the district's legal department received a petition requesting a temporary restraining order to stop any demolition activities. We respect the legal process and will wait to hear the judge's response."
