HOUSTON -

A elderly woman was behind the wheel when her car drove into a west Houston business Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Houston police said it happened around 1:10 p.m. at Astro Dry Cleaners located in the 12600 block of Briar Forest.

Officials said the driver, a 78-year-old woman, accidentally accelerated into the dry cleaners.

Joanne Schneider lives just a few miles away and has been a customer here for a long time.

"Probably 20 years, however long it's been open I've come here," said Schneider. "I don't know what happened... I just came to pick up my dry cleaning and wound up in the store."

The driver said she is shaken up and says the ordeal was scary, but she wasn't hurt in the accident.

Police said one woman behind the counter was checked out by paramedics at the scene.

The car has been towed away and workers are still cleaning up the broken glass and the mangled metal left behind.
