A man shot by a Pearland police officer Sunday night has died.
Pearland police said one of their officers was involved in a shooting Sunday evening at Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast.
Officials said it all started with a robbery at the Home Depot in Pearland around 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Police were called to the store after a suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Noah Silvia, of Gloster, Louisiana, walked inside and started filling a tote bag with power tools.
Police said Silvia left the store with more than $1,800 worth of stolen items. He was approached by two Home Depot workers before jumping the fence near the outside garden area.
Authorities said Silvia was then seen at the Wal-Mart down the street. Police set up a perimeter around the store and were able to tackle Silvia and take him into custody in the parking lot.
While being taken to jail, Silvia told police he was hurt during his struggle with police. After being evaluated by paramedics at the Pearland City Jail, he was taken to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. A uniformed Pearland police officer was assigned to guard Silvia at the hospital.
While at the hospital later in the evening, Silvia managed to sneak away and led police on a foot chase. He was found by a Pearland officer.
Police said a struggle followed, and the suspect was shot and died from his injuries.
The officer who fired his weapon is a four-year veteran with the Pearland Police Department.
