HOUSTON -

An investigation is underway after a cleanup crew spotted a man's body floating in Buffalo Bayou Wednesday morning.

"They got up to it in their boat and found that it had the impression or shape of a human body possibly inside," said Houston Police Sergeant Ben Williams.

The discovery was made just before 10 a.m. in the 500 block of Commerce Street near Main Street, behind the Spaghetti Warehouse. Police say the body was covered with plastic and trash bags, then tied together by a sheet.

It is not clear how or when the body started floating in the bayou, but Williams says it was no accident.

"With all the rain we've had recently it could have come from way down the bayou, or it could have been dropped here," he said. "It's clear the body was dropped and this was not a natural death."

His identity is pending the outcome of an autopsy, which is scheduled for Thursday.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
