A woman was attacked at a gas station, forced into an abandoned warehouse and viciously assaulted, police said.
Pasadena police said a man approached a 51-year-old woman at the Conoco station in the 800 block of Queens Lane about 7 p.m. on March 21.
The man forced the woman to go to an abandoned warehouse in the 900 block of Queens Lane, detectives said.
Police said the man tried to sexually assault the woman and pulled out a knife. The man cut the woman's throat, stabbed her twice and then severely beat her, investigators said.
"Thursday, she walked over here to get some cigarettes. My dad had talked to her a little bit before that. After that, she wasn't answering her phone calls," said a relative of the woman.
The woman fought back and was able to run away from the warehouse. She was taken to a hospital and treated for her injuries.
The relative told Local 2, that the victim will survive. She said, "She's still in a lot of pain. Stapled. Fractured jaw. Broken eye sockets. She's doing a lot better than anybody I thought could."
The attacker was described as Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 to 170 pounds with a goatee and distinctive tattoos on his left arm.
