Jan. 17, 2013: A woman's purse is snatched out of her car as she fills up her gas tank. Phil Archer reports.

A woman's purse was snatched out of her car as she filled up her gas tank.

The woman stopped at the Kroger gas station in the 7700 block of Kirby near North Braeswood on Thursday morning.

While she was pumping the gas, a man reached into her car through the passenger door and grabbed her purse.

A locked door may have stopped him, but leaving a purse in open view is a common mistake at the gas station. When KPRC Local 2 stopped by the same gas station a few hours after the theft, the crew saw many purses on the front seats of cars.

A description of the thief who took the woman's purse has not been released. A security camera was trained on the woman's car, so police will check the video to see if they can get a good description of him.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
