Woman frustrated after fourth burglary in 6 years
A woman said she feels like she has a target on her back after burglars targeted her home four times since 2007.
When Mona Singh went to her home at the Tuscany Lane Apartments in the 1600 block of Bering Drive on Monday evening, she discovered that thieves had ransacked her unit.
"Every small trinket, every tiny jewelry box they could possibly put their hand on," Singh said. "I mean, this work is a work at leisure. It was not done in five minutes."
The thieves stole almost everything of value, except for a flat-screen TV. Singh said they took silver coins collected over the years, a cellphone, two laptops, a camera and more.
"Somebody has gotten away with my items, giving me sleepless nights," she said. "This apartment … is on the very end. I mean, what's the probability, let's sample from so many apartments, they would be picking my apartment for burglary?"
Houston police the break-in at Singh's apartment was the third in the complex in about a week. An apartment two doors down from Singh's was burglarized on March 8 and another one was targeted on March 15, detectives said.
Residents said management notified them about the crimes, so they are being more cautious.
"You don't want to live somewhere where people are getting broken into," apartment resident Lori Bell said. "But I would just try to keep my doors locked and keep an eye out."
