West Nile Virus Alert
HOUSTON -

The Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services has confirmed new incidences of the West Nile virus.

As of July 31, West Nile virus has been confirmed in both mosquitoes and dead birds in the Kingwood ZIP code 77339 as well as the Kingwood and Atascocita ZIP code 77345.

Statistics show mosquitoes in the northern parts of Atascocita ZIP code 77346 have also tested positive for the disease.

Susan Steward lives in the 77346 zip code and she says she's concerned because of a nearby vacant home with a pool she says is full of mosquitoes and filth.

"It's prominent towards stagnant water and that's just a pool that's sitting there," said Steward.

So far, no activity has been reported for the Crosby, Huffman or city of Humble areas.

Statewide, there have been more than 100 reported cases of West Nile. Of those cases, eight have ended in death. There have been no deaths in Harris County.
