HOUSTON -

Friends and family gathered Friday for a candlelight vigil for a woman gunned down in the Meyerland area.

Erika Moreno, 29, was shot and killed Jan. 10 as she was driving in her SUV. Investigators said around 11 p.m., Moreno was driving near the 5400 block of Birdwood near Renwick when someone opened fire at her vehicle.

Officials said Moreno tried to get away by slamming her SUV into reverse, but ended up careening into a grassy easement. She later died while still inside the SUV.

Investigators said the shooting may have started over an argument. The killer remains at large.

The vigil was held at the same location as the slaying. Organizers of the event said they want to keep her name alive so they can hopefully find who did this.

If you have any information about this crime, give Crime Stoppers a call at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
