Student accused of choking teacher

Jan. 30, 2013: A student is in jail instead of a classroom after he's accused of choking a teacher. Mary Benton reports.

KATY, Texas -

A teenager has been accused of choking a teacher at an alternative school.

Shawndaleman Mitchell, 17, has been charged with felony assault.

Prosecutors said the attack happened at Opportunity Awareness Center in Katy on Jan. 25.

According to court records, Mitchell tightened his arm around a teacher's neck and put his hand over her mouth and nose.

The teacher is expected to be OK.

Mitchell was booked into the Harris County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
