April 17, 2013: Sam Houston State University officials confirm that a suspicious social media post is a hoax. Courtney Gilmore reports.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -

Sam Houston State University officials confirmed that a suspicious social media post was a hoax.

SHSU has not released specifics about the nature of the threat, or which social media outlet was used to make the threat.

However, the university has confirmed that the threat made against the school was not legitimate, and the person responsible for sending the hoax has been identified.

Campus police said they are not sure why the suspect, a 20-year-old former student who now lives in Katy, created the post, but they believe there was no intent to cause harm.

SHSU officials said they take all threats seriously, and the safety of students and faculty is of the utmost importance.

University officials said the suspect will be charged with making a terroristic threat, a class-B misdemeanor.
