A manager was shot during a robbery at a southeast Houston pawn shop that turned into a carjacking Tuesday.
Houston police said a robbery was reported at the Cash America Pawn Shop, 3818 Broadway, at 9:40 a.m.
The manager handed over the cash and jewelry the robber demanded, detectives said.
Police said a customer walked in during the robbery and was threatened by the gunman.
"I was in the corner when the manager told me, 'Don't do anything wrong. Don't do anything wrong. He's got a gun,'" Norberto Silba said. "The guy said, 'Get down, get down or I'm going to shoot you.'"
As the robber was leaving, he shot the manager in the ankle, police said. The manager was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
The robber carjacked a couple in the parking lot during his getaway, but he ditched that car about two blocks away, investigators said.
A description of the robber has not been released. Police said a witness told them that the the robber wore a mask and gloves.
