WHARTON, Texas -

A high school was locked down Monday after three bottles that could have exploded were found.

Wharton County Independent School District officials said the bottles were found outside in a courtyard behind the school just after lunch.

The bottles contained a liquid and foil and could have caused a combustion, school district officials said.

Crime tape still surrounded the area several hours after the incident on Monday.

"I heard some kind of popping sound and I turned around.  They were throwing some kind of bottle with some kind of liquid in it," said Isaiah Lynch.  The Wharton H.S. Junior said he saw it and heard it. "It sounded almost like a gunshot."

School administrators put the school on lockdown. Students told Local 2 it lasted for more than two hours.

"We were sitting in class - he came on the intercom and told us were were on lockdown," Lynch said. "Some people were scared because they didn't know what was going on."

Police took the three bottles in as evidence and they will be tested, officials said.

The lockdown was lifted after the search and school was dismissed at its normal time.
