HOUSTON -

Two women suspected of stealing beer from a grocery store were arrested after a dangerous police chase.

Katina Barley, 35, has been charged with theft and Crystal Scott, 43, has been charged with theft, evading arrest, reckless driving and driving with an invalid license.

Pearland police said the two took 11 cases of beer from the Kroger store in the 8300 block of Broadway Street around 7:40 p.m. on March 16.

An officer spotted the women's getaway car on Cullen Parkway near Hughes Ranch Road a short time later. He tried to stop Scott, but she refused, investigators said.

Scott sped up and led officers on a chase along Cullen, the feeder road of the north Sam Houston Tollway and on North Wayside. The chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

When Scott got to the intersection of Wayside and Almeda Genoa, she lost control and sideswiped a utility pole, went through a fence and crashed into materials at a business, police said.

An officer who was trying to find the duo also ended up crashing, officials said.

No one was hurt.
