HOUSTON -

A teenager was arrested after police said he brought a BB gun on campus.

It happened Tuesday, January 15 at Sharpstown High School.

School officials said HISD police were tipped off to the incident and began an investigation. Police said they learned the 17-year-old boy was in possession of a weapon, and that weapon was a BB gun. Officials said the student was arrested the following morning.

One mother said she's planning to transfer her 16-year-old from the school. According to the mother, the boy who brought the gun to school threatened her son's life.

The boy and her mother didn't want to be identified out of fear for their safety, but they and another student claim the 16-year-old was the target of the suspect.

Despite the district's zero tolerance policy regarding weapons, the boy and his mother said the principal allowed the arrested student to return to school. However, the school has not confirmed that the student was allowed back.

The teenager was charged with carrying a prohibitive weapon in a weapon-free school zone.
