Police: Illegal immigrants held after traffic stop

Oct. 5, 2012: Almost a dozen suspected illegal immigrants are taken into police custody, police said. Nefertiti Jaquez reports.

HOUSTON -

Almost a dozen suspected illegal immigrants were taken into police custody on Friday morning, police said.

Police said they were apprehended following a traffic stop on Tidwell near Bauman in northeast Houston about 3 a.m.

Officers said after a short chase they pulled over the pickup truck because it was reported stolen.

Investigators said they removed a rug in the bed of the truck and revealed several people hiding.

Ten suspected illegal immigrants were apprehended by police. Police said they will be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Two suspected smugglers were also arrested.
