HOUSTON -

A homeowner shot two intruders, killing one of them, investigators said.

Houston police said the shooting happened about 6 p.m. Thursday on Tuam Street near St. Emanuel in southeast Houston.

Investigators said two men broke the glass out of a townhome and went inside.

Thee homeowner yelled for the suspects to leave then grabbed his gun and fired several rounds, investigators said. Both suspects were hit, officials said.

Investigators said the two men took off and there was a trail of blood leading across Tuam Street to where a 20-year-old man collapsed.

The 20-year-old man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died. His name has not been released.

Police said a 21-year-old suspect got away in a gold vehicle, which was later found nearby on Calumet Street.

A man with a gunshot wound later showed up at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Police said they believe that man was the second man involved in the home invasion. He is expected to survive.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, said that was the third time his home has been targeted by thieves. He said each incident happened when the gate to his townhouse project was broken.

The case will be referred to a grand jury.
