An off-duty Cy-Fair Independent School District police officer was credited with stopping two car burglary suspects in southwest Houston.
Terrance Brooks had just returned home from a funeral in Louisiana. He was in the parking lot of the Pagewood Place Apartments in the 9700 block of Pagewood near South Gessner Drive at 3 a.m. Tuesday when he spotted two men who appeared to be burglarizing cars.
When Brooks approached, he said he saw the two men removing speakers and other items.
"It was just luck of the draw. I pulled behind, came around and saw the guys in the act," Brooks said.
Brooks pulled his gun and confronted the suspects. They jumped in the car and drove off.
There was a short chase through the complex, but before the suspects got out of the gate, Brooks was able to apprehend them.
"That was a good keen instinct from a seasoned veteran police officer," Cy-Fair ISD Police Chief Alan Bragg said.
Houston police then arrested the suspects. Both suspects were taken downtown, where they will likely face burglary of a motor vehicle charges. Investigators said the men may be behind a rash of recent burglaries.
Brooks has 12 years of experience as a police officer. After the incident, he managed to make it to work on time at 6:30 a.m.
