Nov. 4: SE Texas jumps into action to help Superstorm Sandy Victims

Nov. 4, 2012: Superstorm Sandy and the countdown to Election Day are this week's topics for Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall.

HOUSTON -

Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall focuses on Sandy and politics as the attention of Southeast Texas and the nation deals with disaster while focusing on the upcoming election of a president.

The American Red Cross was in action many days before Sandy began impacting the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Red Cross volunteers from Southeast Texas geared up and headed toward the hardest hit areas.  Cameron Ballantyne, regional communications officer for the American Red Cross, provides information on what is being done to help those impacted by the storm and gives valuable information about how you can help.

CenterPoint Energy also headed to the region before the storm died down. David Baker, vice president of electric distribution, for CenterPoint provides insight into what CenterPoint crews will be doing and if their absence creates problems for customers at home.

As we prepare for the Nov. 6 election, KPRC Local 2's election night experts talk about their expectations for Tuesday.  Joining Khambrel are David P. Jennings, Republican blogger for Big Jolly Politics and the Houston Chronicle, and former Democratic U.S. Rep.and Houston City Council MemberChris Bell.

Both have strong opinions about how an expected close election will turn out.

This week gives a glimpse of Coffee with the Candidates,” which took place this week at Houston's Breakfast Klub. The event brought together candidates from nine Southeast Texas congressional districts and Houston City Council District E. Each group had 20-minute sessions with members of Houston's League of Women Voters streamed live online and now available on Click2Houston.com by clicking under the “News” banner, then “Election 2012.”
