HOUSTON -

A 74-year-old man was shot to death in northwest Harris County and detectives are trying to figure out who killed him.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Maglorio Cortes was found unresponsive in the 1100 block of Springsong Drive about 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Cortes was taken to Cy-Fair Hospital, where he died. He suffered a gunshot wound, investigators said.

Neighbors said Cortes took daily walks through the neighborhood. Some of them also said they heard gunshots and saw a maroon Toyota Corolla with tinted windows leaving the scene before Cortes was found.

"Everybody heard it," neighbor Adrian Baker said. "It was like three or four gunshots. I came outside. I saw him laying down there."

Baker said he called 911 and gave Cortes CPR, but it was too late.

The motive for the killing is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
