Jogger hit by car

Dec. 28, 2012: A jogger is seriously hurt after a driver hit her with his car in west Houston. Mark Boyle reports.

HOUSTON -

A jogger was seriously hurt after a driver hit her with his car in west Houston.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, a car with was stopped at the intersection of Nantucket Road and Westheimer Road, waiting to turn right.

Police said an 18-year-old woman who was jogging on the sidewalk approached the intersection, and, seeing the car stopped, started across Nantucket inside the crosswalk.

According to reports, the driver of the car did not see her, started accelerating into the intersection and hit the pedestrian. 

Police said the driver stopped and waited for officers to arrive at the scene.

Emergency officials took the jogger to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Houston police said the driver failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody. His name was not released.
